Now we have added some further controls to our desk. Each channel now has a "cut" button, which when depressed will mute that particular channel. In the diagram you can see that channel 3 is muted. Each channel also now has a "pan pot." This is short for panoramic potentiometer & controls where in the stereo field a particular sound will come from. In the diagram, channel 1 is panned all the way to the left & channel 2 is panned all the way to the right. What this means is that the acoustic guitarist's signal will only be sent to the left output & will therefore only be heard through the left speaker. Whereas the flute player's signal will only be sent to the right output & will therefore only be heard through the right speaker. The bodhrán is panned to the centre. This means the bodhrán will be sent to both the left & right outputs equally & so will be heard at equal volume through both speakers. The harp is also panned centrally, but because it is cut you will not hear it. |
